MSNBC Keith's god complex and the joke they have become in the media

From huffingtonPost:
Meanwhile, in the past few hours we've spoke to a number of 30 Rock staffers in Denver, New York, and Washington -- some of whom thought it more productive to speak to us than attend to the on-going live DNC coverage -- and the common wisdom is:
1) Nobody can believe how much Keith Olbermann is getting away with, even if he does draw ratings;
2) As an Olbermann protege, Rachel Maddow is attracting negative feelings from staffers, since she stays mum on many of these catfights, but "there's still time" to represent;
3) MSNBC head Phil Griffin is alienating staffers by publicly defending Olbermann while privately bashing him, and it's left many wondering when that will leak (oops);
4) MSNBC publicist Jeremy Gaines appears increasing stressed out and can be seen "shaking" with a phone attached to his ear dealing with reporters;
5) You don't want to run into Chris Matthews anytime soon, especially en route to the bathroom, because he has zero pleasant things to say right now;
6) Joe Scarborough is definitely stressed, but he's managed to calm down a bit today and can be seen laughing and gabbing;
7) None of this is helping ratings, with MSNBC scoring the lowest numbers against Fox News and CNN in convention coverage.

With all this infighting at MSNBC and Keith O the left's  lunatic version of Bill O reilly-  Someone needs to send tweety, shuster and KO to the back of the bus!

Dailyshow now mocking them!
  http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index. jhtml?videoId=183498&title=media-ana lysis-unity

KO does not want any opposing views period anywhere on MSNBC , is even trying to get Tom Brokaw fired and had this house pets on dailyKos start a petition to kick Joe Scarbrough off MSNBC.  yeah babe , lets do a Bushy only in reverse.

Now for the greatest hits all in thise week! As the Democratic National Convention approached Keith Olbermann must have been feeling pretty good about himself. Over the past two years Olbermann has systematically gutted MSNBC of anyone that did not meet Keith's "high standards" for journalistic ethics. Rita Cosby - gone, Don Imus - gone, Bernard McGuirk - gone, Tucker Carlson - gone, Larry Johnson - gone, Dana Milbank - gone, Dan Abrams - gone.

Connie Chung: " GROW UP Keith"

Since the early days of CNN's "Crossfire," cable news has relied on strong personalities to keep drama high and viewers tuned in throughout the day, when news isn't always exciting enough to keep the audience's attention. Passionate debate can make for great television -- and terrific ratings.

But some found this level of personal bickering hard to watch.

"My reaction to that is: 'Grow up!' They have to just grow up," said Connie Chung, a former MSNBC host and former co-anchor of "CBS Evening News."

The network's chief played down the acrimony. "Look, I want honest, authentic people on our air. I don't want phonies. So if the price of that is every once in a while one of these bubbles up, I'm not concerned," said MSNBC President Phil Griffin.

"Like any good manager, I give and I take and I massage and I deal with it," he added, "but the fact of the matter is this is what we want

Excellent choice venician!

Particularly when consumed at high altitude...very fizzy and gassy.

That would be an excellent choice for this diary.  Plus, I grew up near Golden, CO, so that stuff is like pure mother's milk to me, (not that it tastes very good, but when you're 18, anything will do the job).

Coors? No thanks and here's why (none / 0)

The Coors family through their philanthropic arms and family donations has provided the seed money, even more than the Scaife family, to fund a broad array of hard right organizations, including a number aligned with the Contras, anti-anti Apartheid groups, anti-gay groups, anti-environmental lobbying (in particular Watts Mountain States Legal Foundation), reactionary media pressure groups like AIM, groups fighting feminism and on and on.

The Coors family also provided the critical early money and political heft behind the institutions of right-wing backlash in the 1970s, including founding the Heritage Foundation in 1973, the Free Congress Foundation (Weyrich's group) that is linked to a wide array of anti-semitic and fascist organizations - even including Nazi collaborators - and the hard-corporatist Center for National Policy.

Holly and Jeffrey Coors were joined on the CNP Board by Richard Shoff, a former KKK leader in Indiana.  They have helped to fund projects allied with the Unification Church.  Weyrich and Joe Coors formed FCF together in 1974 and as director Weyrich hired and promoted Laszlo Pasztor who served in the pro-Nazi Hungarian Arrow Cross during WWII.  Coors family fingerprints are all over the main non-governmental organizations used during the 1970s and especially the 1980s under Reagan to crush liberation movements in the 3rd World, including tight links to the Contras, RENAMO, UNITA, and on and on.  An early editor of the Heritage Foundation's flagship Policy Review journal was infamous Holocaust denier Richard Pearson.

I am not making this stuff up.

Russ Bellant* concludes his well-sourced expose of the Coors connection to far-right groups:

"The Coors family aids and abets a network of conservative and far-right groups including those which seek to turn back civil rights, disregard the fragility of the environment, and promote racial bigotry, homophobia, and male supremacy.  The Coors family and their allies also promote a belligerent foreign policy that has claimed lives in Nicaragua, Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, and other countries.  In pursuit of its political agenda, the Coors family network employs or is allied with secretive, authoritarian, and totalitarian political and religious forces which overlap with racist and anti-Semitic elements, all pushing programs which would result in a diminution or dissolution of pluralism and democracy in the United States (p. 103).

*Russ Bellant, The Coors Connection: How Coors Family Philanthropy Undermines Democratic Pluralism, 1988/1991.

I was active in Central American solidarity groups in the 1980s and came to research the role of the Coors family on the other side.  It was also the case I never had the opportunity to break and college debate nationals, sadly.

I have this amazing hidden video taken of KO by an operative that works at MSNBC.

In it, Keith admits "He was totally in the bag" for Obama!  He just laughs it off, he and Matthews are drunk in some bar, it's grainy, and the audio is bad, but you can make out Keith and what he says.

Whole group should be totally embarassed.    MSNBC was really climbing I thought until this election heated up.   You have the whole herd of them fallig all over themselves to see who could act like the biggest jackass hack.

I don't know how Olberman will beable to stay sane during the GOP convention.   How can he conduct a credible interview?

I really hoped MSNBC would sort of becomes the anti Fox, anti CNN news channel.   A place that was objective and straight up.   They've blown any shot at that.

Re: MSNBC Keith's god complex (none / 0)

Huffpost seems intent on pushing the narrative that MSNBC is flopping in the ratings. Yes, it is still No. 3 overall, as it has been since its inception, but MSNBC's ratings are actually up overall compared to the network's convention coverage ratings from the last election cycle.

I think MSNBC still has a lot of changes that it needs to make to be a great news organization, but I have to say of the three news networks, MSNBC's coverage has been the best I've seen this election cycle by far.

So just keep in mind that most of these fights are probably because they're blitzed and working off of 4 hours of sleep a night.

especially en route to the bathroom (2.00 / 3)

I love reason #5:"You don't want to run into Chris Matthews anytime soon, especially en route to the bathroom, because he has zero pleasant things to say right now; "

Oh for the good old days when you could derail Chris during one of his patented FedEx "absolutely positively has to get there" pit stop runs.  Back then, the crew down at 30 Rock would throw a banana peel in Matthews' way just for laughs.  Chris would get upended, but instead of cursing them out, he'd say something like   "What a classic prank!  I almost shit myself. Wait, wait ... . awww I did shit myself.  No biggie, I love you clowns.  And hey was that you I saw eating a banana split earelier KO?  You crazy knuckleahead, you.  This reminds me of when I flushed a tennis ball in the teacher's washroom back at St. Francis Academy.  Let me tell you about that one. Got a minute?"

No nowadays Matthews is all business when it comes time to do his business.  Another wire reporter backstage at the Pepsi Center caught this snippet.  Apparently Joe Scarborough blocked Matthews en route to the john and tried to get him to hock a loogie on a KO voodoo doll.  Chris burst out, "what the F---- is wrong with you?!?  Can't you see I've got a steamer on board that has to reach the station ASAP?  Hey, you wanna pull my finger?  You can't handle pulling my finger!"

Troubled times indeed.  Imagine if a producer asked Chris to introduce a Sting song while they rolled the credits?

Re: Keith's god complex (2.00 / 2)

I find KO unwatchable now and I really enjoyed his show/shtick for quite a while.  The comments here typify the kind of overaged fratboy (ooh, but I'm a PROGRESSIVE douchebag) stuff that KO has been pulling for the last few months.  Yes, his attack on Hillary was a factor in my growing dissatisfaction but it's primarily his enormous ego and self-importance that ultimately turned me off.

"God complex" puts it well, althugh it's a rather puny god who is obsessed with his alter-ego at the other end of the spectrum.

And even back in ESPN days, did you really not get the impression that KO was probably an obnoxious dork?
